Mosquito Magnet Madness; Bites, Prevention Repellant and Control

Aug 4, 2015 | Uncategorized

Mosquitoes are one of the most annoying insects that humans have to deal with. The warmer parts of the year sometimes make it difficult to enjoy the outdoors with the significant amount of mosquitoes that are present. Backyard barbeques, little league baseball games and a fun day at the park can turn extremely unpleasant when being eaten alive by hordes of mosquitoes. Not only are mosquitoes annoying, but they also cause concern over the serious amount of health risks they pose to the human race.

Standing Water Mosquito Control

Mosquitoes thrive near any standing water source and so recent rainfall has provided a slew of new locations for mosquitoes to breed and multiply. Rainfall means water is collecting in places like empty trash bins, unused flower pots and anything else that can hold rain water. A thorough inspection of your property will allow you to find any standing water and eliminate it immediately by turning over containers or getting rid of unused items that collect water and provide an excellent environment for the mosquitoes.

Mosquito Diseases such as Malaria, Yellow Fever, West Nile Virus, Encephalitis and Dengue Fever

Mosquitoes carry dangerous diseases that they can transmit to humans like Yellow Fever and Malaria. Yellow Fever is an acute viral disease that can cause humans a great deal of discomfort. In most cases of Yellow Fever, symptoms include fever, chills, loss of appetite, nausea, muscle pains and headaches. Yellow fever is spread by the bite of a female mosquito and infects humans, other primates and even other mosquitoes. Malaria causes symptoms that include fever, fatigue, vomiting and headaches. The symptoms usually are noticed about ten to fifteen days after a person has been bitten by an infected mosquito.

Swelling and Itchy Mosquito Bites

Although we call them mosquito bites, mosquitoes don’t actually bite us, they pierce our skin with their proboscis, which allows them to suck blood from our body and feed. The red bump on the skin after a mosquito had fed on your blood is actually a result of an allergic reaction from the puncture. Mosquito bites can be very dangerous when the mosquitoes themselves are carrying harmful diseases. There have been instances when vaccinations have been available to the general public in areas that are heavily populated with infectious mosquitoes. If bitten by a mosquito, pay attention to your body for the next few weeks and take note of any of the symptoms the diseases produce.
