Holiday Décor and Pest Prevention

With holidays just around the corner you’ll probably be getting down boxes of holiday décor from the attic or other storage areas. If you don’t already have them packed in hard plastic containers, now is a good time to stock up and trade out pest-loving card board boxes for airtight plastic containers with secure lids. If you have them in plastic bins, you’re ahead of the game. If you need to get them, you can start small with just a few plastic containers over the next few months. This way when you’re done with Halloween décor, store them safely away and get ready for the next holiday.

An important step when changing out holiday decorations- when bringing in the outdoor decorations, shake them out well outside. Take a few minutes to inspect. Spiders, mites, and other pests may have been trying to make it their new home.
This same will apply when bringing in live holiday greenery. Plants, garland or Christmas trees should be checked before bringing them indoors.

Taking these few simple steps will help reduce your chances of fighting pests in your home during the holiday and you’ll thank yourself later.
